A good beard takes patience. Most guys give up in the first month because it feels itchy or looks patchy. Stick with it, and follow these steps.
Give it 4 to 6 weeks
Let it grow without trimming for at least a month. Patchy spots often fill in once the hair gets longer.
Beat the itch
The itchy stage is normal. Wash your beard with a gentle beard wash and use a few drops of beard oil every day to soften the hair and the skin under it.
Find your neckline
The most common mistake is trimming the neckline too high. A good rule: your neckline should sit about two fingers above your Adam's apple.
Keep the cheek line natural
Clean up stray hairs on your cheeks, but don't cut the line too low. A natural line looks fuller.
Daily care
- Brush or comb it every day.
- Use beard oil after a shower.
- Trim stray hairs once a week.
- Get a beard shape-up every 2 to 4 weeks.
A barber can shape your beard to fit your face, which makes it easy to keep up at home between visits.
