Every September, our phones start ringing about spiders. As nights get cooler, spiders and the bugs they eat start moving indoors. Here's how to stay ahead of them.
Seal the easy entry points
Check the weather stripping on your doors. If you can see daylight under the door, spiders can get in. Caulk gaps around windows and where pipes enter the house.
Clear the clutter
Spiders love boxes, piles of clothes, and garage corners. Store things in sealed plastic bins instead of cardboard.
Move firewood and mulch back
Keep firewood at least 20 feet from the house and pull mulch a few inches away from your foundation.
Switch outdoor bulbs
Bright white porch lights attract the bugs spiders eat. Yellow 'bug light' bulbs help a lot.
Vacuum webs and egg sacs
Vacuum corners, ceilings, and behind furniture once a week during the fall.
Get a fall perimeter treatment
A barrier treatment around your foundation, doors, and windows stops most spiders before they ever get inside. It's included in our general pest plan.
