What to Expect on Roof Replacement Day

A new roof is a big project, but most homes are done in just one or two days. Knowing what to expect makes the whole thing a lot less stressful.

Before the crew arrives

  • Move cars out of the garage and driveway
  • Take pictures and mirrors off walls that share the roof
  • Move patio furniture and grills away from the house
  • Keep pets and kids inside or away from the work area

Morning: tear-off

The crew usually starts around 7 AM. They lay tarps over your plants and yard, then strip off the old shingles down to the wood. This is the loudest part of the day.

Midday: checking the wood

Once the old roof is off, we check the wood decking. Any soft or rotted boards are replaced so your new roof has a solid base.

Afternoon: the new roof goes on

Next comes a waterproof underlayment, then the new shingles, flashing around chimneys and walls, and vents along the ridge. You'll see the roof change color one row at a time.

End of the day: cleanup

We haul away all the old material and run a strong magnet over your yard and driveway to pick up stray nails. Then we do a final walk-around with you.
